Famous Dutch ice skaters join Friday Night Skate Amsterdam. (may 14 th 2004)

 
This edition of the Amsterdam Friday Night Skate was a special one. Ice Skaters of the Sponsor Loterij Team joined our tour through the city in order gain publicity for the National Sponsor Week. (providing funds for sports clubs in the Netherlands) Amongst them champions Gianni Romme (Olympic gold and silver),  Marianne Timmer (world champion sprint), Mark Tuitert  and Wieteke Cramer.

The start of the FNS was a bit hectic. Three television crews and lot of photographers tried to get the best picture. The ice skaters skated at the front of the pack. All of them on speed skates and not used to street skating with cobblestones and tram tracks :-)

At the Amsterdam we gathered for a short speed race between the FNS-skaters and the ice skaters. (of course on wheels, because the Dutch ice skating season is from mid October til mid March). Marc Tuiter won the race. He is one of the few ice skaters who also practices inline speed skating.

Apart from the speed race, there were rollerdancing and slalom demo's. This as a sneek preview for the Amsterdam Skate Festival 2004 August 13th-15th. After the night skate we all went for a drink in the Vondelpark.
