The first Haarlem Night Skate couln't
have started better: Sunny, good skating conditions and 500 skaters who were eager to
roll. This evening I had a visitor over from Dallas Texas: Biff Bailey from the Texas
Flyers speed team. He was on his way to Switserland for a race in Biel and I asked him to
join the HNS. In the afternoon we did a small skate to the Beach (Zandvoort). (beach skate video 8MB).
So this report is a small commercial to my skating friends abroad to visit Haarlem and
join our social skate. Haarlem can be found 20km west of Amsterdam, 15 minutes by train.
We are only allowed to organize the HNS and it's nearby
sibling VNS, a few times during the summer, so check the HNS-site for the dates. This
edition lead us to the nearby village of Spaarndam, know for the kid Hansje
Brinker who "saved Holland" by putting his
finger in the dike :-) After a break in Velserbroek, we return to Haarlem and
visited the towns square "Grote Markt"
Upon returning at the ice rink, we relaxed at Maartens apres
skeeler café. Enjoying drinks and chatting at the bar. I've made a video about this
skate:

The texts accompanying the the pictures are in Dutch. After
all it's a Dutch skate :-) Enjoy
