| This was my third time in Barcelona. This time
I would join the local skaters on their weekend trip to Vall Fosca in the Pyrenees for
some downhill skating. Since I like skating in Barclona very much I decided to arrive on
Thursday so I was able to join the Barcelona skaters (www.patinar-bcn.com) on their night skate. Two other Dutch skaters Saskia and Inge were also present. The group wasn't very big, about 40
skater which was just the right size for cruising the city. No blockers or skate Patrol,
but just keeping an eye on the traffic yourself. At some dangerous points and curves,
skaters would stop and warn the others.
As you can tell from the pictures the weather in October is
much better in Barcalona than in Holland. We did some nice uphill skating and arrived on
the mountain next to the television tower. The highest point in this night's route. From
here it was a spectacular ride down. Not much traffic, but still you had to be careful.
Not for beginners! Take a look at the video (if you have broadband Internet access :-).
As usual we stopped at Sants train station to get some
drinks. From here we skated to Plaça Espanya where the group splitted. My part of the
group skated up Mony Juic. From there the did the downhill to Columbus statue. A relaxed
skate led us through Port Vell to the olympic village for a drink. We finish around 1:30
am! That was quite a skate :-)
