"Ronde Hoep" skate and Amsterdam
canal boat tour, (June 8th 2003) Actually on this day we should be skating on Texel, an island north of
Den Helder. However, we had travelled all the way up north to the ferry to find our selfs
almost drowning in 10cm water in a very heavy shower. We decided not to board the ferry
and return to Amsterdam. Some of the TNS-skaters went shopping or sightseeing while a
small group of die-hards waited for the rain to stop end to do a small 35km tour south of
the City. The area is called "De Ronde Hoep".
From the Vondelpark we skated along the river Amstel to
Ouderkerk. After this small village you will find yourself in an empty landscape with some
small villages, winding rivers, catle and farms. Hungry we returned to the "Stay
Okay" hostel for dinner.
Of course the ideal sightseeing way is to take a canal boat
tour. Relaxing and enjoying the view. We finished the night in the pubs at Nieuwmarkt
square.
